RICHMOND COUNTY — Richmond County Cancer Care Treasure Shop, a nonprofit store, made a significant donation to the American Cancer Society and Relay for Life.

Last month, the Treasure Shop announced in a Facebook post that they had received their total of store proceeds for the year of 2024, making it a total of $70,000 that will be going towards these organizations.

“We are super excited about this, and we couldn’t have done it without each and every one of our amazing customers!!With each purchase made, and with each donation, you all have helped us in helping those fighting their fight against cancer!” The Treasure Shop stated via a Facebook post.

The nonprofit retailer continued to express its gratitude towards the support received from the community. “Thank you all for your continued support! We can only pray that in 2025, we can donate just as much with the dedication of trying to raise and donate more!!”

According to the post, all proceeds go towards lodging, transportation, food and treatments for cancer patients.

“This donation means a lot to us, especially with many of our employees and customers being affected by cancer. It means a lot to us to be able to help them because all the money goes toward lodging, food, transportation, and treatments. We hear stories about survivors and those currently battling cancer, and we get to provide them hope by helping them as much as we can,” said Heather Guinn, store manager at the Treasure Shop.

“We have a breast cancer walk that we host every year in October on the second Saturday of the month. It starts at 9 a.m., and we walk to Walmart and back, which is just a little over a mile. We’re also trying to get Relay for Life back into Richmond County. We’re hopeful to get that started this year, if not next year,” Guinn said.

Guinn shared that the community can get involved by donating items and shopping at the nonprofit thrift store. “Everything in the store is donated. We take household items and clothing for kids, men and women. We accept apparel like shoes and also have furniture. We pretty much take anything. You can also donate directly to us or the American Cancer Society. If you want to contribute by check or cash, we have all of that information here at the store, so people can come in and pick up pamphlets to learn how to donate directly.”
