BURLINGTON — Katherine Keller “Katy” Maultsby, 78, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 27, 2013, following three years of declining health. She was married for 56 years to Thomas N. Maultsby, who survives.

A proud native Virginian, Katy was born May 8, 1934, in Arlington, Va., the daughter of the late Admiral Clarence Armstrong Keller and Virginia Keller Scherbarth. She attended Mary Baldwin College and graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Duke University School of Nursing and a master’s degree from University of North Carolina at Greensboro School of Nursing. She taught nursing at Nash Technical Institute and Alamance Community College, and also enjoyed a 50-year nursing career in Albemarle, Rocky Mount, and Burlington, including work as Assistant Director of Nursing at Alamance County Hospital. Following her retirement, she worked part time in Student Health at Elon University. Her hobbies included knitting, art, reading, and music. She was an ardent supporter of Duke University, an avid Chicago Cubs fan, and a proud member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Harold E. Scherbarth and a brother Eric Jon Keller.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by son Thomas N. Maultsby Jr. of Burlington, son Robert J. Maultsby of Richmond, Va., son P. Joseph Maultsby (wife Carolyn) of Watkinsville, Ga., daughter Nancy Maultsby-Ganz (husband Dale) of Manhattan, Kan., son John D. Maultsby (wife Jennie) of Rockingham, brother W.A. Keller of Dumfries, Va., and ten grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 30, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church, 400 E. Broad Street in Burlington. The family will receive friends at the church from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. prior to the service.
