Mary Jane Dawkins Puckett died May 28, 2013 at First Health Hospice House in Pinehurst, N.C. She was born in Marston, N.C. on October 24, 1932. She was preceded in death by her parents George Wyatt Dawkins and Ida Garner Dawkins, brothers and sisters and a son Everett Dean Puckett.
She is survived by her Husband of 60 years, James Oliver Puckett of Hamlet, N.C. and children; Janie Lee Puckett, of Hamlet, N.C., Cora Puckett Chubb, of Tampa, Fla. James Oliver Puckett Jr., of Hesperia Ca., Joseph Len Puckett, of Jacksonville, Fla. Mary Puckett Carroll, of Hamlet, N.C., Nellie Puckett Wheless, of Hamlet, N.C., Mark Evan Puckett, of Lakeland, Fla., and Leigh Anna Puckett of Hamlet, N.C. She is also survived by 18 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
Mrs. Puckett was a homemaker raising her children in several different places and at different times as her husband served in the United States Air Force. She returned to Hamlet with her family in 1973 and made her home there. She decided to enroll in Richmond Community College and pursue a nursing career. She graduated and became an LPN with Hamlet Hospital. She was a tireless mother taking care of her children and grandchildren and all their pets and hobbies. She loved to garden and be in the kitchen. Mary was an expert when it came to canning and preserving fruits and vegetables for the many meals she would prepare. She was fond of collecting old glassware.
The funeral service for Mrs. Puckett will be at Harrington Funeral Home on Thursday, May 30 at 11 a.m. with Pastor Randy Bishop officiating.
