Jason Thrift, 47, has been processed in to the Richmond County Jail without bond.
ROCKINGHAM — Sheriff Mark Gulledge reports that on Friday, August 4, 2023, investigators arrested Jason Gary Thrift, 47, of Rockingham, for breaking and entering to terrorize and assault inflicting serious injury.
Thrift’s charges are in relation to him going to a residence on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, where his ex-wife was located. Thrift broke into the residence and assaulted a male subject that was inside.
As of Sunday, August 6, 2023, Thrift has additionally been charged with one open count of murder.
The victim, Matthew Damien Starling, 46, of Rockingham, passed away from his injuries while being treated in a trauma center.
Thrift was processed and remains in the Richmond County Jail with no bond.
