HAMLET — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Hamlet woman with murdering her husband.

Alisha Sweet Williams, 26, of Lumbee Lane is charged with one felony count each of murder and possession of a firearm by a felon.

She is accused of killing Tyler Adam Williams, 25, of Hamlet. Alisha and Tyler Williams were married, according to the sheriff’s office, though Tyler’s relationship status on Facebook is listed as “separated.”

Deputies responded to a report of a possible murder on Lumbee Lane Sunday morning at about 8:48 a.m. Once on the scene, deputies located Tyler Williams deceased inside a residence, according to the sheriff’s office. An incident report states that Alisha Williams “shot the victim about the neck and head.”

Alisha Williams apparently posted a photo of her dead husband on her Facebook following the alleged murder, according to screenshots captured by those with access to her story. The screenshots were circulated online Sunday and Monday. The sheriff’s office declined to comment on the authenticity of the photographs nor on her motive.

The investigation is ongoing.

Alisha Williams is being held at the Richmond County Jail without bond for the murder charge and under a $25,000 bond for the firearm charge. Tyler Williams’s body has been sent to the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office to determine official cause of death, according to the sheriff’s office.

Kaylee Sweet, Alisha’s sister, expressed pain and confusion about her sister’s actions in a Facebook post on Monday.

“Tyler was such a beautiful, sweet, easy going, genuine person. He was my best friend, truly,” Sweet wrote. “We shouldn’t have to know this pain, I hate what my sister has left me with… I don’t think she can even comprehend what she’s done!”

Records with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety show that Alisha Williams has never been incarcerated, but was convicted in 2014 of one felony count of maintaining a place for keeping and selling a controlled substance, which prompted her new charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.

She was sentenced to probation for this conviction, which was combined with one misdemeanor count each of larceny and of being an accessory after the fact to a felon.
