The Richmond Senior High School varsity girls’ soccer team needed two periods of extra time to beat Jack Britt 4-2 Wednesday night and get back in the win column.

The two teams both scored once in the first half and once in the second half, which forced extra time with the game tied 2-2.

Senior forward Jayla McDougald and junior midfielder Kaitlyn Huff scored the two goals in the extra periods that sealed the victory for Richmond.

The win improved the Lady Raiders to 7-2 on the season, and they sit alone in third place in the Sandhills Athletic Conference. Conference leaders and undefeated Pinecrest is the only team in the SAC to beat Richmond so far this season.

Richmond softball falls 3-1 to Jack Britt

The Richmond Senior High School varsity softball team lost a low-scoring affair 3-1 at Jack Britt in a game largely controlled by the two team’s pitchers.

For the Lady Raiders, senior Paige Ransom pitched four innings, giving up three runs off two hits and striking out three, while sophomore Quston Leviner pitched two innings and gave up one hit and no runs.

For Jack Britt, UNC-commit Carlie Myrtle threw 13 strikeouts in seven innings, giving up three hits and just one run.

Richmond’s lone run came off a solo home run by junior Allyiah Swiney in the third innings. It was Swiney’s second home run in two games. The Lady Raiders’ other two base hits came from Leviner and junior Kenleigh Frye.

The loss drops Richmond to 5-4 this season and currently sit alone in fourth in the conference standings.

Next up, Richmond is set to travel to Hoke County on Monday.
