ROCKINGHAM — An 18-year-old Richmond County man is accused of forcing himself on a woman and trying to rape her.

Jacob Tray McKenzie of West Eason Drive, Rockingham, was arrested Thursday on charges stemming from a June 3 incident at his home, Richmond County sheriff’s Capt. Jay Childers said in a Friday statement.

McKenzie is charged with attempted first-degree rape, first-degree kidnapping, committing a crime against nature and violating the terms of his probation.

The crime against nature charge relates to sex acts including oral and anal sex, whether consensual or forcible, according to the statute and case law.

Records show McKenzie is serving probation on November 2014 convictions of assault with a deadly weapon and breaking and entering at a house of worship in Richmond County. He received a suspended sentence and two years’ probation on the charges.

McKenzie has pending Richmond County charges including felony breaking and entering at a place of worship, felony probation violation, misdemeanor causing injury to real property and misdemeanor assault on a female, according to court records.

Deputies booked McKenzie into the Richmond County Detention Center without bond on the sex crime charges. He was given a $15,000 secured bond on the probation violation charge.

McKenzie is due in Richmond County District Court for arraignment on June 29.
