HAMLET, N.C. — Marshall E. Hurst, 89, of Hamlet, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018.
Marshall was born Jan. 3, 1929 in Toxey, Alabama. Marshall was eager to serve his country and joined the Marines before he was actually eligible. He proudly served for 30 years and retired as gunnery sergeant. He then went on to work with CSX and retired from the railroad after 20 years. In his retirement, he took great pride in his farming and providing produce to friends and family. He also enjoyed fishing at his pond with his grandkids and great-grandkids.
Marshall is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Judy Hurst. Marshall is survived by his daughter, Lyn Hurst of High Point; granddaughter Blaire Romines and husband Jason Romines of Raleigh; grandson Charlie Lancaster and wife Brittany Lancaster of High Point; great-grandson Cooper Romines of Raleigh; great-granddaughter Stella Lancaster of High Point; and great-grandson Wells Lancaster of High Point.
The family will receive friends prior to the service on Friday, June 8 from 10-11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Hamlet. Funeral services with Masonic rites will be conducted at 11 a.m. with Dr. Allison Farrah officiating and entombment to follow in the Mary Love Cemetery with military burial rites.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Marshall’s memory to the First Baptist Church of Hamlet, 208 Charlotte St., Hamlet, NC 28345.
