Deputies seek water tank shooter

HAMLET — Richmond County sheriff’s deputies are looking for whoever is responsible for shooting a county water tank.

Deputies say a bullet hole was found in the bottom of the water tank on Oak Ridge Church Road on Monday.

The damage caused by the hole is estimated at $5,000.

The sheriff’s office and Richmond County Crime Stoppers are offering a reward for information leading to an arrest.

“Anyone who’s willing to jeopardize our source of water that we are so blessed to have in our county doesn’t need to be on the streets,” said Chief Deputy Mark Gulledge. “We will use all of our resources available to handle this case.”
