CORDOVA — Melba Bolton Lassiter, 85, formerly of Cordova passed away on Monday August 3, 2026 at SECU Hospice in Yadkinville surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on September 12, 1940 in Erie County, New York to the late Claude Almond Bolton and Ruth Cutting Bolton. Following high school she joined the United States Air Force, proudly serving for three years. She went on to become Postmaster Relief with the United States Postal Service.
Melba was a member of Cordova Baptist Church. She loved her church family and community. She would often say she “loved everybody, with all her heart.” She enjoyed spending time with her family and keeping up with their newest adventures.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of 53 years, Asa Arnold Lassiter, Jr.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Asa Lassiter, III (Teri), John Lassiter, Sarah Payne (Bryan) and Matthew Lassiter (Dana); grandchildren: Maygan Hodge (Paul), John Lassiter, Jr. (Hannah), Hannah Lassiter, Emmalee Payne, Faith O’Dell (Jason), Asa Lassiter IV, Haley Lassiter, Holly Jenkins (Grey), David Lassiter and Luke Lassiter; and eight great-grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Saturday August 8, 2026 at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham from 5-7 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Sunday August 9, 2026 at 2 p.m. at Cordova Baptist Church. Following the service she will be laid to rest next to her loving Husband, Asa, at Zion Methodist Church Cemetery.
