At 4:11 p.m., Deputy Austin M. Hart responded to Mill Road following a report of a convicted felon attempting to steal a firearm. According to the incident report, the items involved included a black handgun valued at $300, a magazine containing 12 rounds and a handgun holster. The suspect, identified by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office as Artavis Jahie Duncan, 24, was arrested. The case is closed.

At 1:29 p.m., Deputy Dillon K. Barbour responded to Eddies Lane in Hamlet following a report of an umbrella theft. According to the incident report, the umbrella was valued at $85. The case was closed by means other than arrest.
