ROCKINGHAM — A man is facing an assault charge after allegedly hitting someone with a stick.

According to an arrest warrant, 34-year-old Willis Jamar Mason, of Stokes Road, Rockingham, hit a man — with the same address — in the face with a “large stick” on June 6.

A warrant for assault with a deadly weapon — showing an incorrect birth date — was issued the following day.

Mason was arrested by a Richmond County sheriff’s deputy June 10 and given a $500 secured bond. His court date is scheduled for June 29.

Online court records show Mason has no other pending charges.

Records with the N.C. Department of Public Safety Division of Adult Correction show Mason’s first conviction was in 2003 for damage to property.

The following year, he was convicted on a misdemeanor larceny charge.

Mason’ s only other, and most recent, conviction was for possession or use of drug paraphernalia in 2012.
