NORTH CAROLINA — Kayla Hicks has been with Dispatch for four years. Her service comes as a natural culmination of a life long passion Hicks has carried within her for helping others through crisis intervention. Hicks finds she really enjoys, “Answering 911 calls and sending help to people.”
When Hicks thinks about what she finds to be the most rewarding moments of her job, she shares, “Saving a life, making a positive impact in our community, and knowing that I am making a difference for the better.”

Emily Smith may have only been with dispatch for six months, but she knows her reason for service boils down to four simple words, “I love helping people.”
She has found the greatest reward in the calls she receives from the more genteel generation, noting, “the sweet old people”, make her day.

For Nick Marteny, dispatch service is in the blood. Following in the footsteps of his grandmother, Nicolas now answers emergency calls of his own. His job is a daily connection to family. Nicolas shares that the most rewarding aspect of the dispatch profession is helping folks in the community, receiving benefits in addition to good pay, and being part of an, “awesome team.”
Jennie Mecce may not have been looking for a job in dispatch initially, but she has found a home in dispatch service for eight years now and counting.
“Once I got into it, I realized this is where I belong. I have the opportunity to help every shift and that is something I was meant to do,” she explains with the confidence that comes from experience. Mecce knows that the job is emotionally and mentally draining, but she finds strength where she finds the greatest reward, saying that each call is, “One of the most rewarding experiences I get to live through daily.”

For Katie Goodman the most rewarding part of her five year career in dispatch service has been found in the profession itself.
“I love helping people, being engaged but not overly involved in their lives.”
Goodman views every day she is answering calls from her neighbors in need, as a chance to, “Feel like I am making a difference.”
