The Richmond Senior High School volleyball team dropped its second straight game Monday night, falling to Jack Britt 3-1 in its home opener.

“We did not stay aggressive,” said head coach Ashleigh Larsen. “Same simple mistakes we made last week.”

After dropping a tight first set 29-27, the Lady Raiders managed to bounce back to take the second set 27-25.

Richmond was unable to complete the comeback, losing the third set 25-21 and the fourth set 25-17.

Senior Georgia Grace Anderson had 13 kills on the night, while senior Jakerra Covington added 8 kills of her own.

“The middles had a great game,” Larsen said of Anderson and Covington. “They worked hard to find the floor and get some hands on blocks.”

Defensively, senior Emy Cooley finished with 17 digs. Collectively, the Lady Raiders had 20 digs in the second set alone, Cooley with 6, seniors Kelly and Shelly Hoffman with six and four, respectively, and junior Allyiah Swiney and senior Taylor Chappell with two apiece.

“Allyiah (Swiney) and Emy also had some great digs,” Larsen said. “Just need to find the will to be hungry to win.”

The Lady Raiders have a quick turnaround as they host Hoke County Tuesday night before breaking for the Thanksgiving holiday.
