SANFORD — The Richmond girls track and field team posted a runner-up finish behind Cummings — for the second weekend in a row — at the Pepsi Invitational at Southern Lee High School on Saturday.

Head coach Reggie Miller and the Lady Raiders brought in 103 total points to secure their spot in second place.

Cummings, which beat out Richmond at the Viking Relays on March 30, scored 113 points to lead the way. Union Pines (57) came in third and Rocky Mount (45) finished fourth, while Cape Fear and Northwest Cabarrus (42 each) tied for fifth.

The Lady Raiders had one group and one individual best their respective competition on the day.

Maddisyn Diggs, Monasia Kearns, Dymond McNeal and Bree Wall — all juniors — made up the 4×200-meter relay team that ran a winning time of 1:47.81. Sophomore Jakerra Covington cleared the four-foot, 10-inch bar to win the high jump.

Covington also came in second in the long jump (16 ft, 6 in) and finished fifth in the 100m dash (13.04). She would join forces with Diggs, Kearns and McNeal to place second in the 4x100m relay (49.91).

Senior Taliah Wall grabbed up a pair of runner-up finishes in the high jump (4 ft, 6 in) and the 100m hurdles (17.52). She claimed the No. 6 spot in the triple jump (30 ft, 8 in) and finished seventh in the long jump (14 ft, 11.5 in) as well.

Kibreanna Stewart also earned a few top-10 finishes individually. The junior finished in a three-way tie for fourth in the high jump (4 ft, 6 in), outright took fourth in the triple jump (32 ft, 5 in) and placed eighth in the 100m hurdles (18.46).

Richmond’s 4x100m weightman relay team finished second with a time of 59.79.

Freshman Jaleah McKinnon and junior Jardai Tillman would place fifth in the 300m hurdles and the shot put, respectively. Jamaya Bryant, sophomore, was sixth in the 100m hurdles. Rayana Shubert, freshman, finished sixth in discus throw.

Richmond is scheduled to visit Jack Britt for a Sandhills Athletic Conference meet on Thursday, Apr. 11.
