CAMERON — The Richmond girls track and field team racked up 72 total points on its way to a runner-up finish at the Union Pines Viking Relays at the Nathaniel P. Carter Track on Saturday.

Cummings, the reigning 2A indoor state champions, scored 78 points to take home the victory. Anson (49 pts) came in third, Pinecrest (47 pts) and Union Pines (47 pts) tied for fourth and the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics (34 pts) finished sixth.

“The girls did a great job,” Richmond head coach Reggie Miller said. “We stayed balanced in almost every event.”

The Lady Raiders won the 4×100-meter relay, with a time of 50.07 seconds, thanks to the speed and teamwork of first leg Monasia Kearns, second leg Jakerra Covington, third leg Maddisyn Diggs and anchor Dymond McNeal.

Richmond also bested the 4x100m weightman relay, clocking in at 56.71.

Covington was the lone Lady Raider to win an individual event with her performance in the high jump, as she was able to take first place by clearing five feet. The sophomore would also place second in the 100m dash (12.86 seconds).

Junior Kibreanna Stewart and sophomore Korie Dawkins finished eighth and ninth, respectively, in the high jump. Diggs, a junior, ran a 13.18 in the 100m dash to finish three spots — in fifth place — behind Covington.

Richmond saw Rayana Shubert place second in the discus (88 ft, 9 in), Stewart come in third in the triple jump (33 ft, 2 in), Ariel Brown finish fourth in the 3200m run (13:15.99) and Taliah Wall place fourth in the long jump (15 ft, 9 in).

Davionna Campbell and Tasheka Harrington represented the Lady Raiders in the shot put with their fifth- and sixth-place finishes, respectively, while Jamaya Bryant placed the team seventh in the 300m hurdles.

Richmond’s 4x800m relay team (Brown, Taliyah Cobb, Zymia McInnis, Mercedes Ingram) came in third place, its distance medley team (McInnis, Jocelyn Hunter, Cobb, Anlee Wyand) came in sixth, and its 4x400m relay squad (Aniya Robinson, Bree wall, Sierra Ramsay and Hunter) finished ninth.

“The girls left everything on the track,” Miller added, “and I am so proud of all of them and their efforts.”

The Lady Raiders will travel to Fayetteville on Thursday at 4 p.m. for a Sandhills Athletic Conference meet.
