ROCKINGHAM — Clint Wood, of Wendell, and Colby Marshburn, of Clinton, were the Super Pro and Pro bracket winners, respectively, in Sunday’s VWs at the Rock, all-Volkswagen drag race and car show at Rockingham Dragway.

Wood drove his 1964 VW Bug past the Dune Buggy of Larry Heglen (Lancaster, S.C.) in the Super Pro final after winning the closest race of the day in the semis. In order to get to final round, Wood finished .001 of a second ahead of Corbitt Marshburn (Clinton) in a semifinal race that was too close to call with the naked eye.

Back at the Rock for the first time since 2010, the event drew more than 65 show cars along with a wide variety of racing VWs. Other Sunday winners were Pat Young (Danville, Va.) in the Draggin’ Booties class and Thurman Warren Jr. (Dunn) in the Trophy class.
