FAYETTEVILLE — The Richmond volleyball team may have been distracted in the early part of Tuesday’s battle at Seventy-First, but it was eventually able to focus in on the match at hand and grab a win in four sets (26-28, 25-18, 25-10, 25-21).
Head coach Ashleigh Larsen said she thinks the “approaching weather” and the “change in the school’s schedule” had taken the Lady Raiders’ minds off the quest — in the first set — for their fourth conference victory of the season.
Juniors Madison Jordan, outside hitter, and Layne Maultsby, libero, each recorded three aces to help the offense get rolling in the second set. Senior outside hitter Savannah Lampley led the team’s hitting, in the frame, with four kills.
The third set had Maultsby’s name written all over it. She would land five aces in 11 serves, record five digs to carry the defensive effort and tack on a kill. Lampley added three of her 11 digs in the third.
Sophomore middle hitter/blocker Georgia Grace Anderson led Richmond’s fourth-set defense with three blocks. Jordan and Maultsby would combine for all five of the team’s aces in the final stanza.
Richmond (7-4, 4-2 SAC) is scheduled to travel to Anson next Wednesday, Aug. 19.
