ROCKINGHAM — Jeremy Ritter (Robbins) beat Charlie Callicutt (Seagrove) in Saturday’s final to win his second MXA Street Car Shootout at Rockingham Dragway.
In a classic Ford versus Chevy match, Ritter won with a time of 11.962 seconds at 108.72 miles per hour over Callicutts’ too-quick time of 13.923, 101.00, off his dial-in of 13.92, .027 of a second under. Ritter drove his 2014 Mustang while Callicutt finished second in a 2002 Camaro Z-28.
Ritter made it to the championship round after grabbing a victory — winning by a scant 96-thousandeth of a second — over Sonny Broadway, a Rockingham native, in the semifinal.
Jeff Britt (Lumberton) won the Carolina Street Car Shootout by beating his brother, Michael, in the final round. Britt won driving a 1982 Chevy Monte Carlo over his brother’s 1984 Olds Cutlass in the heads-up final with a time of 6.862 seconds, 107.45 to a up-in-smoke 9.585 time at 88.32 miles per hour.
The Rock will host the 24th annual Racers’ Appreciation Race this Saturday and Sunday, with the ATI Performance Top ET Challenge — paying $20,000 to win each day — on March 23-25. The next MXA Street Car Shootout is scheduled for Friday, March 30, which is a preliminary exercise for the Griffin Motors 27th Annual MOPARS at The Rock on Saturday, March 31.
