ROCKINGHAM – At last week’s Varsity Baseball game against Pinecrest, the game was suddenly called to an end when a child was hit with a foul ball.
The injured toddler was revealed to be Langston Culbreth, according to social media posts from his mother, Christian Liles.
“If you were at the game Thursday, you know how hard the ball was that hit Langston. It probably came off the bat at 85 mph…He’s back to playing, eating, talking, and telling us to ‘husssshhh’ with his finger over his mouth. He is a little unsteady on his feet, likely due to swelling in the ear. He will consult with ENT again this week and audiology in 4-6 weeks,” read the statement from Liles. She told social media that he had a skull fracture due to the impact.
As for the game, the Raiders finished the game with the Patriots the next day, Friday, May 1. The Raiders would score three points to finish the third inning before the Pinecrest Patriots would forfeit.
Freshman Noah Stubbs would go 1-for-1 with a double and a 3.000 OPS. Senior Maddox Locklear went 1-for-2 and scored a run. Senior Caden Nolan went 1-for-2 and scored a run. Senior Colton Brown would allow no walks and no runs, helping secure the game for the Raiders.
As a result of this win, the Raiders are regular season conference champions for the first time since 2016.
