ROCKINGHAM – The Raiders suffered a 6-1 playoff loss at the hands of Marvin Ridge on Tuesday, May 5, bringing their overall record to 9-14.
Marvin Ridge applied the pressure early, hitting four home runs in the second inning. The Raiders would utilize three different pitchers to slow down Marvin Ridge, but it did not help. Richmond would give up eight hits and six runs, five of them earned.
The Mavericks also applied the pressure defensively, only allowing the Raiders to get nine hits out of the 29 times they were at-bat. The team would strike out nine times, with many of them getting no hits.
Some of the Lady Raiders worked hard to try and overcome the Mavericks, but it would not matter. Freshman Ava Clarke would go 3-for-4, with three hits. Junior Madeline Carriker would have one hit and one run, giving Richmond the only point it scored.
This playoff loss is especially devastating for the Lady Raiders, as it means the end of their season. The Raiders ended the season with a 9-14 overall record, 7-3 conference record, and NC Rank of 232.
