ROCKINGHAM – The Lady Raider varsity basketball team pulled off an exciting 55-48 overtime victory against the visiting Westover Wolverines on Friday.
Trailing 36-31 at the end of the third quarter, the Raiders fought back to tie the game at 42 and force overtime. In the extra period, Richmond Senior outscored Westover 13-6 to secure the win.
Senior J. Gilchrist led the Raiders with 20 points and six assists, while junior Madisen Jackson contributed 10 rebounds and four points. Other key contributors included seniors Olivia Brown and J’Nasia Neal and freshman Amiah Streeter, who made key defensive plays down the stretch.
With the win, the Raiders improved to 1-1 on the season. They travel to Scotland on Tuesday, December 9, to face the Fighting Scots, who are 0-3 after a 51-30 loss to Montgomery Central. Westover now 3-1, will visit Hoke County next.
