ROCKINGHAM – Richmond Senior’s varsity soccer team faced a challenging week, dropping close games to Pine Forest and Jack Britt in conference play.
Monday, the Raiders hosted Pine Forest and fell 1-0 in a tightly contested match. Richmond Senior created opportunities throughout but couldn’t break through against a staunch Trojans defense. Junior goalkeeper Eric Legrand recorded another strong performance, keeping the Raiders within striking distance with multiple key saves.
On Wednesday, the varsity Raiders traveled to Jack Britt and pushed the match into overtime, ultimately falling 3-1. The Raiders opened the scoring, but the Buccaneers rallied in the second half and overtime to take the victory. Legrand again anchored the back line, stopping 15 shots in the matchup. Memphis Jacobs scored Richmond’s lone goal, while Phoenix Jacobs and E. Fonesca Garcia drew the team’s only cautions of the week.
The losses drop Richmond’s varsity record to 5-10-2 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play, highlighting the team’s need to regroup as league play continues.
