PEMBROKE – The Raider varsity soccer team earned a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Purnell Swett on Monday, handing the Rams their first home loss of the season.
Both sides played to a scoreless draw in the first half, with Raider defense holding strong against early pushes from the Rams. The Raiders found their breakthrough after the break, when junior Kevin Diaz-Lopez scored the lone goal of the match. Junior Patrick Smith was credited with the assist.
Raider goalkeeper Eric Legrand made his prescence felt in the net, recording four saves across 80 minutes of play. His effort, combined with a disciplined defensive performance, secured the shutout for the Raiders.
The win improved Richmond’s record to 3-6-1, while Purnell Swett fell to 6-3-1.
Looking ahead, the Raiders will travel to face Uwharrie Charter Academy at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
