ROCKINGHAM – The Richmond Senior girls varsity volleyball team displayed grit and resilience Tuesday night, rallying from a two-set deficit to defeat rival Scotland in a five-set showdown. The Raiders clawed their way back to take the match 3-2, improving their season record to 6-3.
After a rocky start, dropping the first two sets 12-25 and 17-25, Richmond served up a comeback in the third. Fueled by strong serves and improved court communication, the Raiders edged out the next three sets 25-22, 25-20, and 15-13 to complete the comeback and seal the win.
Despite being outscored overall across the five sets (105-94), Richmond made their points count when it mattered most — a sign of a team that’s learning how to finish close games.
It’s a notable turnaround from last season’s 7-15 record, as the Raiders now look sharper and more composed under pressure. The win also adds to their early-season momentum, while handing Scotland their third loss in the last four matches.
With the non-conference stretch now in the rearview mirror, Richmond will open their conference slate on Tuesday when they host Pine Forest at 6:00 p.m. The matchup will be a key test as the Raiders aim to build on their recent success and make a stronger run this fall.
