PEMBROKE — Qualifiers from the Richmond Senior High School track team competed in the 4A Mideast Regional championship meet Friday afternoon.
Only the top-four finishers in each event qualfiy for the 4A state championship meet next week.
For the Raiders, its 4×100-meter relay team, consisting of sophomore Jamarion Bryant, junior Kelay Lindsey, senior Tremel Jones and junior Cason Douglas, came in sixth with a time of 43.84. The 4×200-relay team was eighth with a time of 1:31.37, but consisted of sophomore Emerson Wall instead of Jones.
In the 110-meter hurdles, junior Trey Thomas and senior Bryan Stanback finished second and fifth, respectively, in their respective heats. Then, Stanback was sixth in the finals with a time of 17.32, while Thomas was right behind him in seventh with a time of 17.43.
Douglas won his heat in the 200-meter dash, but was sixth in the finals, with a time of 26.37.
Senior CJ Tillman was sixth in the shot put finals, with a distance of 41 feet, 10 inches.
In triple jump, the Raiders had two finish in the top-10. Wall came in sixth with a distance of 41 feet, 11.5 inches, while Thomas was eighth at 39 feet, 11.5 inches.
For the Lady Raiders, senior Jakerra Covington was limited by her hamstring injury, but still finished fifth in the long jump finals with a distance of 16 feet, 5 inches. Then she came in eighth in the high jump with a height of 4 feet, 8 inches. She also placed second in the shot put, throwing a distance of 34 feet, 11 inches, qualifying her for states in the event.
Both the 4×100 and 4×200-meter relay teams qualified for states. The 4×100-meter relay team, consisting of junior Talayeh Covington, sophomore Akeya Harrison, sophomore Andrea Ellerbe and sophomore Isis Covington finished third in the finals with a time of 50.25. Then the 4×200-meter relay team, with the same runners, took second with a time of 1:46.65.
As Richmond’s lone representative in the distance races, junior Maylyn Wallace came in sixth in the 1600-meter finals with a a time of 5:52.32.
In the 200-meter dash finals, Ellerbe earned a fourth-place finish and a trip to states with a time of 25.91. Isis Covington was 10th with a time of 27.34.
