LETTER: No reason to stand for anthem

To the editor:

This is reason enough for me to never ever stand up for the national anthem again…

None of us should stand for it. Tell me, where all the folk are who are always saying, “Don’t erase history…”?

You all omitted these lines so cleverly:

No refuge could save the hireling and slave, From the terror of flight or the gloom of the grave

So, American People, if you believe that this song is for everyone, then you must not believe in equality. This song was not written for me to be proud of.

One thing’s for sure, this country is finally getting a full history lesson.

Tell me why any person with ancestors who were in bondage should stand for this.
