To the editor:

I am writing this letter to draw attention to all of those who live in the Meadowood area or the Cordova area. This concerns my water bill and how it has ran for the last four months. I have never paid attention to how many gallons I was being charged for every month until July’s bill came in.

According to my bill, I have used 11,000 gallons of water for that month. My bill was more than $73. I looked at bills from the past three months. In April, the reading was 3,000 gallons. In May, the reading was 6,000 gallons. In June, the reading was 4,000 gallons. Then in July, the reading was 11,000 gallons.

We do not use water to water our grass and we buy our drinking water. The only thing we do is what we have been doing for the past 15 years, day in and day out, which is taking a shower every other day and washing laundry once a week.

We had our water lines checked by a reputable plumbing company. There are no leaks. We had a man from the Richmond County Water Department sent here. He checked the water meter and told me that these water meters are extremely old.

We took the reading at night. Then, the next morning, the meter showed that we used 130 gallons. How is this possible? I do not think the meter was misread. I think the meter is worn out.

I myself have watched the meter spin around like a top when no water was running, then stop. Something is wrong.
