Stormy forecast postpones Plaza Jam

ROCKINGHAM — Thursday’s Plaza Jam concert at Cole Plaza has been rescheduled for July 30 due to the threat of severe thunderstorms, organizers said Thursday morning.

The Rick Strickland Band initially booked for Thursday will perform at the rescheduled Plaza Jam event, city of Rockingham events coordinator Kim Williams said.

Rockingham’s Thursday Plaza Jam concert series opened for the 2015 season on May 7 with the Tim Clark Band. Concerts are scheduled on the first Thursday of each month from May through October. After the July 30 concert, Plaza Jam returns Aug. 6 with The Tams.

The National Weather Service on Thursday issued a hazardous weather outlook for Richmond County. Rockingham’s forecast called for a 50 percent chance of scattered thunderstorms with the potential for locally damaging winds and minor flooding in flood-prone areas.
