ROCKINGHAM — The Thomas H. Leath Memorial Library, Kemp Memorial Library and the Hamlet Public Library are celebrating National Library Week this week with events and special promotions.

National Library Week is an annual celebration highlighting the role libraries, librarians, and library workers play in educating and building communities. This year’s theme, Libraries = Strong Communities, “illustrates how today’s libraries are at the heart of our cities, towns, schools and campuses, providing critical resources, programs and expertise,” according to the American Library Association’s website.

Leath Memorial Library is forgiving only current late fees for books returned between April 7 and April 13. Leath is also replacing lost or worn out library cards this week. For more information, call 910-895-6337.

The Hamlet Public Library is holding a Library Word Scrabble Game until April 13. Visit the library for details on how to play. HPL is also holding a contest to see who can guess how many books are in their library. The HPL’s annual book/bake sale will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on April 12 and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on April 13.

The Kemp Memorial Library will give visitors a $25 Walmart gift card for every visit between April 7 and April 14.

Some of the events on schedule for National Library Week are:

• Picture Book Putt Putt from 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on April 9 at Leath. Dr. Seuss Cornhole will also be available to play. Children can visit the circulation desk for their putter and ball.
