ROCKINGHAM — Opthamologist and cataract surgeon Dr. Neil Griffin has announced plans to open a new eye care practice on Long Drive in Rockingham.

Griffin will offer “the latest and most-advanced laser cataract procedures” including his specialties of all-bladeless Lasik and the treatment and surgery of eye diseases and disorders affecting the cornea, according to a Griffin Eye Center news release.

Griffin is a pioneer in endokeratoplasty, a new type of corneal transplantation technique. He has presented study results and his technique to surgeons in both the United States and abroad. He is a noted international endokeratoplasty instructor as well as an instructor in lamellar keratoplasty for the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Griffin received his medical degree from the University of Alabama School of Medicine where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society. He served his internship at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and completed his residency at the University of Maryland in Baltimore.

He received his highly specialized fellowship in cornea and external disease from the University of Texas in Houston. He is board-certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is also a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Griffin Eye Center will be located at 921 S. Long Drive, Suite 212, Rockingham. Dr. Neil Griffin will start seeing patients May 16.
