HAMLET — Sandhills Regional Medical Center is celebrating the Center of Distinction Award, which was given to Sandhills Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine by Healogics, the nation’s largest provider of advanced wound care services.

The center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months, including patient satisfaction higher than 92 percent, and a minimum wound healing rate of at least 91 percent within 30 median days to heal. There were 512 centers eligible for the Center of Distinction award, but only 221 achieved the honor.

“This is a great accomplishment in our pursuit of excellence in patient care,” hospital CEO David Clay said in a release. “Our high patient satisfaction scores coupled with outstanding clinical outcomes is paramount to providing exceptional service to the community.”

“As medical director of the Sandhills Center for Wound Healing, I am honored to be a part of a Center of Distinction,” Dr. Joel Puleo said. “It is satisfying to have achieved the level of clinical success that this award merits. I look forward to helping the Center maintain our patient’s trust and well-being in the coming year.”

The wound-healing and hyperbaric center is a member of the Healogics network of nearly 800 centers, and provides access to benchmarking data and proven experience treating about 2.5 million chronic wounds. The Sandhills Center for Wound Healing and Hyperbaric Medicine offers highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time.

Advanced treatments include negative pressure wound therapy, bio-engineered skin substitutes, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, biological and biosynthetic dressings and growth factor therapies.

“Our staff strives daily to provide the best wound care treatment to our patients in a friendly and caring environment,” program director Jami Spivey said. “It is an honor to receive the Center of Distinction award.”
