ROCKINGHAM — The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office has charged a Rockingham man with possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, Xanax and Oxycodone.
John Chazz Murray, 26, of Rockingham, is charged with PWISD a Sch. II and IV controlled substances and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
On Sunday, Dec. 17, investigators with the Community Impact Team conducted a traffic stop on Clemmer Road for a fictitious registration plate.
While speaking with the occupant, one investigator noticed a box and baggies used for packaging narcotics on the passenger seat with what appeared to be residue of illegal narcotics.
After speaking with Murray, investigators searched the vehicle and located 119 Xanax and Oxycodone pills and 2.9 grams of fentanyl. Investigators also located a 9mm handgun next to the driver’s seat. When Murray was taken into custody and searched, investigators located $1,189 in U.S. Currency on his person.
Murray was processed into the Richmond County Jail and did not receive a bond. Records with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety reveal that Murray has prior convictions for assault, larceny and selling Sch. IV drugs dating back to 2017.
