ROCKINGHAM — A Rockingham man wanted by South Carolina authorities has been charged by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

Paul Casey Bailey Jr., 31, of Battley Dairy Road, was charged with one felony count of extradition/fugitive from another state and one misdemeanor count each of resisting a public officer, injury to real property and injury to personal property.

However, during Bailey’s court appearance on Thursday, the Richmond County district attorney dismissed the extradition charge because the paperwork out of South Carolina was done incorrectly, according to court records. The case for his misdemeanor North Carolina charges was continued by the defense.

Bailey is facing a burglary charge in Richland County in South Carolina. Documents related to his extradition state that Bailey is potentially violent and has a prior arrest for armed robbery.

On Oct. 10, Bailey allegedly damaged a window and a grill, causing $200 of damage, according to court documents.

While being arrested, Bailey allegedly pulled away from sheriff’s office deputies and wouldn’t follow verbal commands.

Bailey was arrested Oct. 10, and is currently being held at the Richmond County Jail under a $2,000 secured bond for the misdemeanor charges. He is also facing pending charges of failure to appear on a felony that he’s being held for under an additional $60,000 secured bond, and is scheduled to appear in Richmond County Superior Court for on Nov. 2.

Records with the North Carolina Department of Public Safety show that Bailey has a past conviction for felony speeding to elude arrest or attempts to secure from 2019 in Richmond County, for which he was sentenced to probation.
