Many hands make light work on ramp

A local church decided not to go on a mission trip to Haiti this year to stay in Richmond County and build a ramp for a Rockingham woman in need. First Presbyterian Church partnered with NC Baptist Men on the project Wednesday to help Dorothy Christmas of Ledbetter Road, who has lost much of her mobility as the result of arthritis, and who said she had fallen three times going down the rounded staircase up to her house since her conditioned worsened. The handrail the Baptist Men installed for her previously was no longer enough for her to feel safe going down the stairs. “I really needed it,” Christmas said of the ramp. “This will help me balance myself and be more steady.”
