HAMLET — Police have released security footage taken during a July 14 robbery of the Alco convenience store on Spring Street, in the hopes someone may be able to identify two suspects.

The video shows a heavy-set black man in a black-and-white flannel shirt and black track pants with red stripes. The man also is wearing a ski mask and hood, and enters the store first, before motioning another man inside.

The other suspect is a thinner black man wearing a dark blue hoodie with black-and-red basketball shorts, and a face mask that appears to bear the image of a character from the Transformers comic.

The thinner man lifts up his mask at one point, showing a thick mustache, but his eyes are not visible on the video.

The men can be seen entering the store at 1:11 a.m., reaching over the counter and leaving with wads of money in their hands — all within a span of about 30 seconds. Chief Scott Waters said store employees were away from the counter at the time.

The suspects simply pushed the button to open the register and took the drawer, which contained less than $200.

Capt. Randy Dover said that because the robbers did not use force, they likely would be charged with larceny.

Anyone with information about the incident may call the Hamlet Police Department at 910-582-2551 or Richmond County CrimeStoppers at 910-997-5454.
