ROCKINGHAM — Richmond Senior High School’s delegation returned from last week’s national Beta Club convention with two group honors and one individual.

The cadre of about 30 won recognition for attendance, sending the highest percentage of club membership to attend the convention in Savannah, Georgia.

Members also won recognition for their activities during National Beta Engagement Week in March, during which they honored behind-the-scenes supporters and planned a charity event with a group in Scotland County.

Come the next Richmond-Scotland football match, sponsor Suzanne Hudson said Tuesday, Beta members will stage a friendly competition to see which school can drum up more contributions for a local food bank.

“We were very surprised” by both honors, Hudson said, pronouncing the convention trip “fabulous.”

Beta Club member Annie Bartlett, a rising junior, won the group’s only individual award: third place in fiber arts for a hat and scarf crocheted in a delicate pink.

The National Beta Club Convention ran Wednesday through Saturday of last week, drawing 20,000 senior high school members.
