MARSTON — Two employees of Murphy-Brown LLC have been charged with stealing more than $1,000 of company property, according to Scotland County Sheriff’s Capt. Mitch Johnson.

Maurice Gibson, 52, of 2300 Crandall St. in Laurel Hill, and Rudolf McGill, 38, of 425 Oreo Lane in Bennettsville, South Carolina, were each charged Sunday with felony larceny by employee. They are being held in the Scotland County jail, each under a $10,000 bond.

Johnson said the sheriff’s office’s Criminal Investigation Unit received information that employees were taking the company’s items, and stopped McGill’s car on Sunday near the Nashville Church Road to find tools and cleaning supplies. The items, valued at $1,160, were returned to Murphy-Brown, Johnson said.

Johnson indicated that the theft was not isolated but declined to elaborate, saying the arrests were the result of an “ongoing investigation.”
