HAMLET — Police are asking for the public’s help identifying two men they believe were trying to steal packages over the weekend.

According to Detective Capt. Randy Dover, two white men started walking up to a home Sunday just after a FedEx delivery was made to a home in the Pinecroft neighborhood. When the homeowner stepped out, Dover said the two men ran back to their vehicle and took off in a black Ford F-150 with a bed cover.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Hamlet Police Department at 910-582-2551.

There have not yet been any reports of stolen packages filed with the Hamlet or Rockingham police departments or the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, but with residents ordering Christmas presents, Dover said they should be careful.

He suggests having packages delivered at work, if possible, or to the residence of a family member who will be home when deliveries arrive.
