Richmond County Schools collected more than 32,000 items during its Stuff the Bus campaign this year — up from 30, 138 items in fall 2016.

From 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. Aug. 25, a yellow school bus sat in the Walmart parking lot on U.S. 74 Business, doors open and ready to receive donations. Beta Club members from Rockingham Middle and Richmond Senior High School collected money to buy materials, and carted donations onto the bus.

The bus also parked at Raider Stadium that night.

The items will go to students in kindergarten through grade 12 who need assistance.

Stuff the Bus is a collaboration of Richmond County Schools, Walmart and the United Way of Richmond County.
