CHARLOTTE — Congressman Robert Pittenger announced Monday that he will be hosting nine town hall meetings across District 9 this month.

“So far this year, I’ve worked to pass over 270 bills, including conservative health care reform, major financial reform, V.A. accountability, a crackdown on sanctuary cities, and the largest pay raise for troops in 8 years,” Pittenger said in a statement. “These town halls are an important part of my ongoing efforts to solicit feedback from constituents as we make plans for the second half of 2017.”

Pittenger will hold one event in each county in the district.

CONGRESSIONAL CHALLENGERS

Several candidates have announced they will throw their proverbial hats in the ring to challenge Pittenger in the next election.

On the GOP side, Charlotte Pastor Mark Harris has said he will be running again. Pittenger beat Harris in the last primary by less than 200 votes.

The Democrats are also lining up to see who will take on the congressman in an attempt to send one of their own to Washington: Chris Cano, of Charlotte; Maria Collins of Robeson County; and Dan McCready of Charlotte.

State Republican lawmakers rolled out a map early last year that pulled Richmond, Anson and Scotland counties — along with Robeson — out of Rep. Richard Hudson’s 8th District and placed them in the 9th District, represented by Pittenger. The district also includes Union County and parts of Mecklenberg, Cumberland and Bladen counties.

Filing for the Congressional election will be in February.
