Police: Pinecrest teacher took indecent liberties with student


SOUTHERN PINES — A Pinecrest High School teacher was arrested Wednesday on allegations of having inappropriate physical contact with a student.

Evan Jerel Saleeby, 31, of 444 W. Palmer St., Raeford, faces a felony charge of taking indecent liberties with a student, according to jail booking records.

A resource officer with Moore County Schools Special Police arrested Saleeby on the charge Wednesday. The offense date is listed as May 14.

Saleeby is on the social studies faculty at Pinecrest and teaches world history, civics and economics, according to the school website.

The Class I felony applies to “any immoral, improper or indecent liberties with a student” or “committing or attempting to commit any lewd or lascivious act” with a student, but does not include sexual intercourse, N.C. General Statute 14-202.4 states.
