ROCKINGHAM — People from all over Richmond County and surrounding areas took part Saturday in the Rugged Maniac, a challenging obstacle course with warped walls, balance beams, fire jumps and the popular 50-foot water slide.

This was the second year in a row the Rugged Maniac made a stop at Rockingham Dragway and was the first of two events being held in North Carolina this year. The second will take place in October.

The Boston-based event series included a day-long festival that featured an array of entertainment like dance parties, mechanical bulls, adult bounce houses, beer and exhibition booths.

All those who participated received an event T-shirt, free action photos of themselves on the course, a Rugged Maniac medal and, for those of age, a free beer.
