HAMLET — Residents with questions about the Amazon Web Services data center will have a chance to speak with company representatives during an upcoming open house Sept. 1 at Richmond Community College’s Cole Auditorium.
The event will feature an open, drop-in format “designed for conversation.” Attendees can stop by anytime between 4 and 7 p.m. to speak directly with Amazon subject matter experts about the data center being built on Airport Road and learn how data centers are built, operated and maintained.
The event will not feature a formal presentation.

The AWS data center campus near Hamlet was announced last June, with an estimated $10 billion investment in the campus. The project is expected to feature up to 20 individual buildings at full build-out.
In late July, the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s Division of Air Quality held a public hearing regarding air permits for AWS and Duke Energy. During the hearing, multiple residents and environmental experts from across the state voiced concerns about and opposition to the data center.
