ROCKINGHAM — A Richmond County man is facing a felony charge following an alleged vehicle break-in Monday, along with charges stemming from a 2023 case.
According to an arrest warrant issued by the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, Deandre Malaike Byrd, 28, allegedly entered a Chevrolet SUV on Aug. 17 by pulling on the door handle and getting inside.
The warrant states the vehicle contained “things of value, with the intent to commit a felony.”
Byrd was charged with one count of felony breaking and entering a motor vehicle.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a combined $25,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was Aug. 18, and his next hearing is scheduled for Sept. 3.
Byrd is also facing charges stemming from a 2023 case investigated by the Rockingham Police Department.
According to court records, Byrd was charged with felony larceny, breaking or entering a motor vehicle and misdemeanor larceny in 2023. An arrest warrant was initially issued April 11, 2023, and was served Aug. 17, according to court records.
Court records show Byrd was convicted in Hoke County in 2019 of larceny, breaking and entering a motor vehicle and receiving or possessing a stolen vehicle.
Records also show he was convicted in 2022 of a three-month reimprisonment violation in Hoke County and felony breaking and entering in Richmond County.
