RICHMOND COUNTY — A Hamlet woman is accused of stealing soft drinks and beer from two gas stations and is facing multiple larceny charges.
According to an arrest warrant issued by the Hamlet Police Department on June 28, Stephanie Elaine Smith, 55, allegedly stole a 12-pack of Sunkist Orange and a 12-pack of Pepsi from the Refuel store on June 27.
Smith was charged with felony habitual larceny. According to the warrant, the charge is based on previous larceny convictions, including misdemeanor larceny convictions in Richmond County District Court on April 28, 2022, Dec. 7, 2023, and May 21, 2024, as well as a larceny from the person conviction in Richmond County Superior Court on Feb. 28, 2024.
A separate arrest warrant issued June 29 alleges Smith stole a 12-pack of Corona beer and a 12-pack of Pepsi from Speedway, with the items valued at $33. She was charged with misdemeanor larceny in that case.
Smith was arrested July 11 on both warrants.
According to Richmond County Jail records, Smith also has pending charges of second-degree trespassing, two counts of assault and battery, and an additional count of misdemeanor larceny. At the time of writing, those charges were not available in court records.
Smith was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a combined $6,000 secured bond. Court records show her first appearance was July 13, and her next court date is scheduled for July 30.
