RICHMOND COUNTY — A Rockingham man who is currently on probation is accused of threatening to kill another person and pointing a crossbow at the victim’s face.
According to an arrest warrant issued July 11, Robert Gray Gainey, 48, allegedly pointed a crossbow at the victim’s face that day and made verbal threats to kill the person.
Gainey was charged with misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor communicating threats and felony probation violation.
He was arrested and booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $25,000 secured bond. Court records show his first appearance was July 13, and his next court date is scheduled for Aug. 7.
Last month, Gainey was arrested after authorities alleged he cut telecommunication lines and a utility pole belonging to AT&T and Spectrum. He was charged with injuring utility wires or fixtures, injury to real property, and injury to property to obtain nonferrous metal affecting critical infrastructure.
According to court records, Gainey was convicted in May of possession of a firearm by a felon and altering or removing a firearm’s serial number.
In March, Gainey was arrested after a traffic stop led to multiple weapons-related charges. According to law enforcement, deputies determined Gainey was driving with a suspended license and had an outstanding arrest warrant. While deputies were issuing citations, another deputy asked Gainey to step out of the vehicle.
After Gainey was arrested and handcuffed, deputies reported finding a short, single-barreled shotgun between the driver’s seat and center console within his reach. Investigators also reported the firearm was loaded and that its serial number appeared to have been filed off.
Gainey was charged with possession of a firearm by a felon, possession of a weapon of mass destruction, altering or removing a firearm’s serial number, carrying a concealed gun and serving an outstanding order for arrest related to traffic offenses.
