HAMLET — The Seaboard City has officially appointed Mackenzie Webb as Acting City Manager on Wednesday, June 17.

“The City of Hamlet is pleased to announce the appointment of Mackenzie Webb as Acting City Manager, effective following the City Council’s regular meeting on June 9, 2026,” read the press release issued by the city.

Webb, a Hamlet native, joined the city staff in 2023 after earning both her bachelor’s degree and Master of Public Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She began her municipal career in Hamlet as city planner and quickly established herself as a rising leader within the organization.

“She was initially hired as the City Planner and quickly demonstrated strong leadership, professionalism, and a commitment to public service,” read the press release.

Webb’s leadership and expanding responsibilities led to her promotion to Assistant City Manager in August 2024. During her tenure, she has helped advance community development projects, supported municipal operations, and assisted in implementing the city’s strategic priorities.

In her new role as Acting City Manager, Webb will oversee the city’s day-to-day operations while continuing to work closely with City Council, city staff, residents and community partners “ to advance the goals and vision of the City of Hamlet.”

“I am proud to have the opportunity to serve the community that has always been home to me,” Webb said in the press release. “Over the past three years, 1 have had the opportunity to work alongside dedicated employees and community partners, and I am grateful for the relationships we have built and the accomplishments we have achieved together. I appreciate the trust City Council has placed in me during this transition, and I am excited to help continue building a strong future for the City of Hamlet.”

Mayor Amy Guinn praised Webb’s leadership and contributions to the city, expressing confidence in her ability to serve the community in her new role as Acting City Manager.

Webb’s appointment follows the departure of former City Manager John Terziu earlier this month. The press release does not specify a timeline of when the city will appoint a permament city manager.
