ROCKINGHAM — Richmond County Hospice Inc recently announced the creation of a new department within the organization. The Development Department was launched on February 1, with Jessica Mims appointed to lead this initiative.
Mims has been with Richmond County Hospice since 2011 serving as a homecare social worker for three years before promotion to the Director of Family Services in 2014. She has extensive experience in hospice care and has assisted with admissions in addition to supervising social work, chaplain, and bereavement services. As a native to Richmond County, her roots run deep and she has a passion for hospice.
“Richmond County Hospice is the premier hospice provider in our area” said Mims, adding “we want to be the provider of choice for our community, and we encourage patients to ask for us by name if their physician recommends hospice care.”
As the Director of Development, Mims will remain a part of the leadership team and will focus her efforts on grants, fundraising, and donor development, with which she has experience. These areas have historically been divided amongst different staff members but will now fall under the umbrella of the Development Department.
As an independent, nonprofit provider of hospice care, Richmond County Hospice depends upon support from the community to help them carry out their mission.

One of the priority tasks for this new position is a capital campaign for an update to the Haven Kitchen. A kitchen is more than just a place to prepare food, it is the heart and soul of any home, and our Haven is no exception. The Haven is designed to feel like home and to offer all the comforts enjoyed there. Nothing says comfort like a home cooked meal. Such meals can bring immense satisfaction to our patients and their loved ones reminding them of being at home with family enjoying a favorite meal together, they said.
“To ensure quality meals are offered and prepared it is necessary to update our current kitchen facilities,” they said. “Enhancements are needed to improve functionality and workflow within our current space as well as upgrading appliances. We are asking our neighbors to assist us in this endeavor. Donations are being accepted to go toward the Haven Kitchen Update. Any amount is appreciated and will help us reach our goal of $60,000.
