RICHMOND COUNTY — A traffic stop Wednesday resulted in drug charges after deputies reported finding suspected fentanyl, marijuana and drug paraphernalia inside a vehicle.
According to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office, deputies conducted the stop at the intersection of Airport Road and Patterson Street for traffic violations.
As deputies approached the vehicle, they detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside, officials said.
According to authorities, Traffic Safety personnel contacted the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Community Impact Team to assist with the investigation. Investigators also reported detecting the odor and removed the occupants from the vehicle to conduct a probable-cause search.
Officials said the driver, Demery Farrell Jackson, 47, admitted to having a methamphetamine smoking pipe in his pocket.
During the search, investigators reported finding several items of drug paraphernalia, 7.87 grams of marijuana packaged separately and digital scales. While searching Jackson, investigators also located 4.2 grams of a gray, powder-like substance consistent with fentanyl, according to authorities.
Jackson was arrested and charged with trafficking in fentanyl, possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and multiple traffic violations.
He was booked into the Richmond County Jail under a $150,000 secured bond.
Court records show Jackson has a previous conviction for driving with a revoked license.
